Hogben Farm Bed and Breakfast is situated in a truly rural location, completely surrounded by our own gardens and pastureland.

We are halfway between Ashford and Folkestone, with easy access in either direction from the M20 (see map). Ashford International Station is 8 miles(13 kms). The Channel Tunnel approx. 15 minutes, and the Port of Dover approx. 30minutes

Hogben Farm to junction 10 (Ashford) is 4.9 miles (7.6kms) and to junction 11 (Stanford) is 4.4 miles (7kms)

A Little Bit of History

The oldest part of the house is 16th Century. or earlier, with a most unusual prominent brick chimney.

Charles Igglesden’s “Saunter Through Kent, Vol. 13, 1919”, reports that the farm was the property of the Deedes Family, and had been farmed by the same family for many generations. He also mentioned “ two mighty Ashes” and their pollarded trunks are still very prominent in the garden.

The house is a Grade 2 listed property as are the traditional 17th Century or earlier Kent Barn, and the 18 th Century former Dairy Building.

Aldington was notorious for its smuggling associations in years gone by and the name “Hogben” is that of a smuggling family (See Hasted’s Kent, 1796).

Recent History

We acquired the house and just a few acres in 1973, and straight away extended the house using old Oast House bricks and tiles. The garage and conservatory were added later.

In the last 5 years, the driveway, terrace, lawns and gardens have been extended and improved in keeping with the small country house character of the whole property.

At the same time we have been able to buy a bit more land, and 3 strips of woodland have been established around the 20 acres of natural grassland, where we usually graze sheep. 4 ponds have been dug to add to the natural attraction of the countryside. The Kent Barn has, in 2005, been reroofed and the weather boarding replaced.

Guests can enjoy access to the fields and new woodland, and so enjoy the countryside to the full.
